Work@Height: VR Safety Training for Working at Height

Project Overview

Falls from height remain one of the most serious risks in construction and engineering, and the hardest to train for, because the only truly realistic classroom is the dangerous place itself. ViitorX built Work@Height to change that. It is a VR safety training simulation that places workers on scaffolds, towers, and rooftops inside a fully controlled virtual environment, where they can rehearse the right decisions and feel the consequences of the wrong ones without any real exposure.

Objective

We wanted work at height safety training that workers would actually remember, not a slideshow they sit through once a year. The simulation needed to:

  • Recreate genuine work at height hazards faithfully enough to trigger real caution.
  • Let crews practise inspections, harness use, and safe movement repeatedly.
  • Turn a passive safety briefing into active, hands-on VR training.
  • Show supervisors where each worker hesitates or makes an unsafe choice.

Challenges

Traditional work at height training struggles on several fronts:

  • You cannot safely expose a trainee to a real fall to teach them how to avoid one.
  • Printed manuals and videos do not build the muscle memory that height work demands.
  • Classroom sessions are easy to forget by the time a worker is on a live site.
  • Safety teams rarely get data on who is genuinely ready and who is guessing.

Solutions

Work@Height delivers virtual reality training that feels consequential. The build included:

  • High-risk scenarios, zero real risk: We recreate towers, scaffolds, and rooftop tasks so trainees confront real work at height hazards inside a safe virtual environment.
  • Learning by doing: Workers carry out inspections and tasks themselves, building habits through repetition rather than instruction.
  • Gamified progression: Interactive, game-like challenges keep workers engaged and motivated to complete the full programme.
  • Decision analytics: The system records the choices each worker makes, so safety teams can see which scenarios cause hesitation across the workforce.

Where Work@Height Delivers Value

Work@Height is built for construction firms, engineering contractors, and any operation where crews work above the ground. It standardises VR safety training across sites and languages, gives EHS leaders evidence of competence rather than attendance, and lets organisations move new workers into high-risk roles with far more confidence.

Results & Impact

  • Lets workers rehearse fall-from-height scenarios with no real-world danger.
  • Converts one-off safety briefings into repeatable, hands-on virtual reality training.
  • Surfaces the exact moments and scenarios where workers make unsafe choices.
  • Builds genuine readiness for work at height safety before crews reach a live site.
  • Gives supervisors a consistent benchmark for high-risk task competence.

Conclusion

Work@Height shows what VR safety training is genuinely good for: rehearsing the situations that are too dangerous to practise for real. By letting workers make mistakes in a virtual environment and learn from them safely, ViitorX helps construction and engineering teams send people up with sharper instincts and better habits. Safer workers, fewer incidents, and stronger evidence of readiness.
