Adani Centre of Excellence: Immersive Mining Education Experience
Engaging stakeholders with safe, interactive 3S mining operation simulations.
Project Overview
ViitorX partnered with the Futurotec to develop three interactive training and presentation systems for the Adani Centre of Excellence at IIT-ISM Dhanbad. We designed a virtual reality training simulation, a synchronized phygital projection system, and a curved 3D stereoscopic immersive environment. Inaugurated by Gautam Adani, these installations provide realistic, risk-free environments for students and stakeholders to learn complex mining operations and understand Adani's future-ready mining vision.
Objective
The Adani Centre of Excellence required technology-driven tools to train future mining professionals. The primary objectives included:
- Delivering hands-on VR training for core mining operations without requiring live site access.
- Communicating Adani’s Smart, Safe, and Sustainable (3S) mining approach through experiential storytelling.
- Showcasing the Adani-IIT (ISM) Dhanbad collaboration via a synchronized phygital environment.
- Building scalable learning experiences suitable for inductions, technical education, and stakeholder demonstrations.
Challenges
The project presented specific technical and logistical challenges:
- Live mining sites pose severe safety risks, making hands-on student training physically inaccessible.
- Traditional presentations fail to communicate the massive scale and complex workflows of mining operations.
- Adani's 3S mining concept required deep, non-linear immersion rather than passive observation.
- The facility required multiple interactive systems to operate seamlessly within a single, shared physical space.
Solutions
ViitorX deployed three interconnected systems to address the facility's requirements:
- VR Training Simulation We built an end-to-end virtual reality module for drilling, blasting, and excavation. Optimized for Meta Quest 3, it features bilingual voice-overs and integrates real mine video footage to ground the simulation in operational reality.
- Phygital Experience We installed a synchronized dual-projection system combining large-format wall visuals with a tabletop map. This delivers a 7-scene narrative detailing the Adani-IIT collaboration and future mining vision.
- Immersive 3D Experience We engineered a curved 3D stereoscopic projection system using synchronized multi-projector mapping. This spatial setup utilizes depth-driven visuals to place users directly inside large-scale environments, illustrating Adani's 3S mining framework.
