Real Assist: An Augmented Reality Remote Assistance Platform

Project Overview

ViitorX built Real Assist to solve a problem every service-led business knows well: the expert and the equipment are rarely in the same place. Real Assist is an augmented reality remote assistance platform that connects an on-site technician with a remote specialist over a live video link, then lets that specialist place AR annotations, arrows, and instructions directly onto the real world the technician is looking at. The result is a calmer, faster repair, and a way to move senior knowledge across distance without moving people.

Objective

We set out to design augmented reality solutions that cut downtime and travel without asking technicians to learn complicated tools. The platform needed to:

  • Let a remote expert see exactly what the field technician sees, in real time.
  • Add clear visual guidance on top of live equipment, not just talk through it.
  • Work hands-free, so technicians can keep both hands on the job.
  • Capture each session, so the fix becomes a reusable training reference.

Challenges

Remote support has been promised before, and most tools stop at a video call. The harder problems were practical:

  • A phone call cannot show a technician which of two identical valves to turn.
  • Field environments are noisy, gloved, and often at the edge of connectivity.
  • Senior engineers are scarce, and flying them to every site is slow and costly.
  • Generic remote assistance software rarely survives contact with a real shop floor.

Solutions

Real Assist brings the expert into the technician’s field of view with augmented reality. The build included:

  • Live AR annotation: The remote specialist draws arrows, circles, and step markers that lock onto real objects, so guidance stays anchored even as the camera moves.
  • Hands-free operation: Designed for smart glasses and mobile, Real Assist keeps the technician’s hands on the equipment while voice and AR carry the conversation.
  • Resilient connectivity: The session is tuned for low-bandwidth field conditions, holding the link where ordinary video tools drop.
  • Session capture: Every guided fix can be recorded, turning a one-time repair into a documented procedure for the next technician.

Where Real Assist Delivers Value

Real Assist is AR remote assistance built for teams whose work happens away from the desk: manufacturing maintenance, energy and utilities, heavy equipment, and field service networks. It shortens the gap between a problem and the person who can solve it, helps newer technicians act with senior confidence, and reduces the cost and carbon of sending specialists from site to site.

Results & Impact

  • Puts a remote expert’s eyes and instructions directly onto the equipment a technician is holding.
  • Replaces describe-it-over-the-phone support with anchored, on-object AR guidance.
  • Keeps technicians hands-free through smart glasses and mobile devices.
  • Turns scarce senior expertise into a resource any site can reach instantly.
  • Builds a library of recorded sessions that doubles as on-the-job training.

Conclusion

Real Assist shows how augmented reality remote assistance moves from demo to daily tool when it is designed around the technician, not the technology. By anchoring expert guidance to the real world and keeping it hands-free, ViitorX turns distance into a detail rather than a barrier. It is part of how we help service-led businesses keep equipment running and knowledge flowing.
