My Sari My Pride: An Interactive Museum Tribute to India’s Textile Heritage
A touchscreen digital museum experience that lets visitors explore India’s saris, shawls, and handicrafts region by region.
Project Overview
India’s textile heritage is vast, regional, and deeply human, yet a glass display case can only ever show a fraction of it. ViitorX created My Sari My Pride, an interactive museum installation that gives that heritage room to breathe. Built for touchscreen displays, it invites visitors to explore saris, shawls, and handicrafts from across the country, with the stories, craft, and cultural meaning behind each one a tap away. It is a digital museum experience designed to sit alongside physical collections and deepen them.
Objective
We set out to make a digital museum that honours its subject rather than gimmicks it. The interactive museum experience needed to:
- Celebrate and digitally preserve India’s saris, shawls, and handicrafts.
- Let visitors explore the collection region by region, intuitively.
- Make textile artistry meaningful for students, curators, and casual visitors alike.
- Support cultural heritage preservation as a living, growing archive.
Challenges
Presenting textile heritage in a museum carries its own difficulties:
- A physical display can show a handful of pieces, not the full regional richness.
- Static labels rarely convey the craft, technique, and meaning behind a textile.
- Younger, screen-native visitors expect to explore, search, and interact.
- Many visitors speak different languages and have different accessibility needs.
Solutions
ViitorX designed My Sari My Pride as a tactile, visually rich experience. The build included:
- Interactive map of India Visitors explore textiles region by region through an intuitive map, making the country’s diversity the way in.
- Multimedia catalogue Each piece is presented with high-resolution images, video, and cultural insight, turning a display into a story.
- Search and filter tools Visitors can browse by material, weaving technique, or region, so curiosity leads the journey.
- Inclusive by design Multiple languages, adjustable fonts, and audio narration make the museum interactive installation welcoming to every visitor.
Where My Sari My Pride Delivers Value
The installation is built for museums, cultural institutions, and heritage galleries that want to bring textile collections to life. As an immersive museum layer, it lets a small physical display open onto a national archive, engages younger audiences on their own terms, and gives curators an evolving platform for cultural heritage preservation that grows with the collection.
Results & Impact
- Opens a single display into a nationwide, explorable archive of Indian textiles.
- Turns passive viewing into active, region-by-region discovery.
- Makes textile craft and meaning accessible to students, curators, and casual visitors.
- Welcomes diverse audiences through multilingual, accessible design.
- Gives the museum a living digital museum archive that can grow over time.
Conclusion
My Sari My Pride shows how an interactive museum experience can carry culture, not just content. By pairing thoughtful design with genuine respect for the craft, ViitorX helped turn India’s textile heritage into something visitors can explore, understand, and feel. When a cultural collection deserves more than a label, this is the kind of digital museum work we love to build.
